Marius Rajanayagam is a Senior Associate with Maurice Blackburn
Commercial, specialising in superannuation and financial services
law.
Marius was admitted to practice in 1994 and holds a Master of
Laws and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, as well as a Bachelor of
Arts.
Marius has worked as a financial services lawyer for more than
15 years and has extensive experience in all aspects of the
investment, banking and finance, and superannuation sectors. He has
worked for domestic and international banks and international
listed companies, trustees of major industry superannuation funds
and promoters of significant local and offshore investment
vehicles. His recent experience includes:
- restructuring the capital of, at the time, the largest fund of
hedge funds in the world, a London Stock Exchange listed
entity
- setting up Australian and European private equity funds with
funds under management in excess of AUD$1 billion
- establishing investment vehicles for leading European
investment banks
- transactional work on syndicated lending and securities
arrangements for major UK banks
- acting in superannuation fund mergers following corporate
mergers (including a recent merger between two of Australia's
leading retail corporate groups)
- advising on the conversion of defined benefit superannuation
plans into accumulation plans
- personally arguing the successful superannuation case of Cook v
Benson before the High Court of Australia which concerned
bankruptcy and superannuation law and resulted in changes to the
Bankruptcy Act 1966.
